Located on a leafy West Village block, de Santos is a restaurant project from Alex Gonzalez, drummer of the popular Mexican rock band Maná. The real star of the show here, however, is chef Aldo Alo, who prepares memorable dishes like trofiette with mushrooms, garlic and shaved Parmigiano.

Restaurant News: Starr-Struck
New York diners never warmed up to Wakiya in the posh Gramercy Park Hotel, and the restaurant will be shutting down on December 21. The space will be taken over by restaurateur Stephen Starr (Morimoto, Buddakan), who is shooting for a late-spring 2009 opening.

Through November 15, Hakubai in The Kitano New York is offering an early bird special for diners with reservations between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. The four-course prix-fixe meal is available for $69 and includes dishes like homemade Japanese turnip tofu with crab meat and wasabi.
