Dear Reader,

Does October seem a bit fishy to you? It does to us! In celebration of National Seafood Month, we trawled in the Best Seafood Restaurants Near You and also netted the Top 10 Seafood Restaurants in the U.S. Home cooks fond of fish will find inspiration for searing, steaming and sautéing in our reviews of Roy's Fish & Seafood and the Pike Place Public Market Seafood Book, while wine lovers get a primer on what to serve with salmon or sashimi in the Best Wine and Seafood Pairings.

Our spotlight this month is on California, home to the red Sea Urchin, and we traveled to San Diego to talk with experts about the spiny creatures. Fans can check out our list of restaurants around the country that serve uni sashimi or sea urchin pan-fried with breadcrumbs. California also harvests another delicacy, abalone. We visited an Abalone Farm to understand the diligence that lands these maritime morsels on your plate. Thanks to California’s mild climate, it also hosts Olive Ranches, Lavender Farms, and incredible produce like seedless watermelon and Rosso Bruno tomatoes. And, this Western bread basket is home to movie directors who make wine, such as Francis Ford Coppola and his Rubicon Estate wines, and chefs who write culinary history, as evidenced by Thomas Keller with his highly rated The French Laundry in Yountville.

As to foodie events, California has plenty, such as the San Diego Bay Wine & Food Festival, a huge culinary celebration featuring wine dinners and cooking classes by celebrity and local chefs. California is also where we noted the Coconut Water craze first. Find out why this potassium-packed juice is so good for you.

Moving east to Ohio, we find another tasty do-gooder, Probiotic Chocolate from Maramor. Their dark and milk chocolate bars contain more probiotics than yogurt! And because we like to “do good” as well as enjoy goodies, we love to support the Republic of Tea’s Sip for the Cure Red Cherry White Tea, which benefits Breast Cancer Awareness Month. And, all the way on the East Coast, esteemed restaurant critic John Mariani brings his appetite and his pen to the much-hyped Momofuku Noodle Bar.

There’s plenty more we have for you online, including our blog, restaurant ratings, recipes, local culinary events… but we also want to hear from you.  Post a comment on our forum, or review a restaurant or hotel on our site for our millions of visitors to read. And don’t forget to visit us on http://www.gayot.com/images/facebookicon.jpgFacebook and Twitter.
See you next in November with top turkey tips!
