Bob's
Buzz
Dr.
Bob’s HandCrafted Ice Creams
From
the outside, Dr. Bob’s ice cream flavors sound simple:
Chocolate, Dark Chocolate, and even Really Dark Chocolate.
Inside these seemingly harmless pint-sized cartons, however,
is one of the “richest and most intensely flavored
ice creams available,” according to the company’s
claim. Made with 16 percent butterfat and hand-mixed with
ingredients like Scharffenberger chocolate, Tahitian vanilla
and Argentinean caramel, this ice cream lives up to its
buzz.
Officially
called Dr. Bob’s HandCrafted Ice Creams, these creamy
desserts were created by Dr. Robert Small, a Cal Poly Pomona
professor at the Collins School of Hospitality. In 1999,
he opened his small manufacturing plant, which now produces
60 flavors of ice cream, sorbet and frozen yogurt. Dr. Bob’s
creations have since won numerous awards and are becoming
increasingly popular at the various restaurants and specialty
stores where they are available.
Although
Scharffenberger chocolate is his specialty, Dr. Bob also
offers flavors like Strawberries with Sour Cream & Brown
Sugar, Chunky Peanut Butter Vanilla Swirl and Brown Sugar
Pecan. Ice cream lovers will appreciate the chunks, or “veins,”
of ingredients in each flavor, especially the chocolate,
which is thankfully less sweet and more chocolaty. But sensitive
stomachs beware: each bite is packed with butterfat, making
a scoop of ice cream almost too rich and creamy to enjoy.
Moderation is the key, however, and in small doses, Dr.
Bob’s HandCrafted Ice Creams may be just the perfect
treat.
