Rich and Dreamy

These aren't the messy cupcakes you see at kids’ birthday parties, boasting bright blue frosting or animal-shaped sprinkles. Dainties Cupcakes, owned by chef Bill Dertouzos of catering company Flatbush & J in Los Angeles, are sinfully rich desserts: moist devil’s food cake filled with fresh whipped cream, hand-dipped in dark chocolate ganache and finished with another swirl of flavored whipped cream. Despite all this cream, the cupcakes are light and fluffy, although it only takes one to satisfy even the most serious sweet tooth.
Dainties—named so because, as we discovered, you have to eat them daintily to prevent dipping your nose into the whipped cream on top—come in a plethora of flavors. The five types offered daily are Chocolate, Caramel, Coffee, Fresh Raspberry and Original Vanilla Bean while other rotating flavors include Blood Orange, Coconut, Maple, Kahlua, Honey Graham and Nutella.
Price: $3 each; available by the one, four, six and baker's dozen
