Inspired by the ancient Mexican tradition of using chocolate as a source of energy rather than an ingredient for dessert, Cabaret Foods introduces an innovative new beverage for fans of hot drinks. Similar to traditional coffee, Brewed Chocolate is made from distilling raw cacao beans in water. The liquid is then sweetened with cane juice and reduced to a syrup, which is then combined with boiling water to consume.
Flavor-wise, imagine a chocolate-flavored tea rather than a traditional hot chocolate. In terms of its effect on the mind and body, the high concentration of theobromine (a cousin of caffeine) in the cacao beans produces a long-lasting stimulant and is said to be a general mood enhancer. While some of us felt energetic after drinking Brewed Chocolate, a few of us experienced a lackadaisical calm.
What we liked best about this product is that it preserves everything that is healthy and positive about chocolate, including its antioxidant-rich properties, while leaving almost all of the fat behind. We also found Brewed Chocolate to be a great change of pace from the usual coffee and tea that we sip morning, noon and night.
