The Delights of Low-Sugar
Crème Delight,
The Smart Indulgence
By Barbara Bowman
Although
it may feel like it sometimes, ingesting 26 grams of fat
and 27 grams of sugar from only one teensy-tiny half-cup
serving of ice cream isn’t worth it, especially when
it disastrously becomes one cup, then a cup and a half and
so it goes. For those ice cream lovers who are looking for
a lighter alternative, try Crème Delight, The Smart
Indulgence. With only 90 calories, 3 grams of sugar and
3 grams of fat per half cup, you can have your ice cream
and eat it too thanks to Splenda. We tried the chocolate
as well as the cookie dough ice cream sandwiches (which
have 130 calories each, 7 grams sugar and 4 grams fat) and
found that although the chocolate left a slight Splenda
aftertaste, the sandwiches were excellent for a light frozen
treat. The cookies were rich in chocolate flavor, and their
texture was complimented by the soft ice cream center. Definitely
a pleasant surprise for a light dessert. Other flavors of
Crème Delight’s ice cream include vanilla,
cookie dough and chocolate with caramel turtles, and the
sandwiches are also available in chocolate and vanilla.
If you live in Manhattan, you’ll be able to find them
in stores all over the island. If not, you can purchase
items such as a six pint assortment for $54.95 plus shipping
(shipped overnight) on their website at www.cremedelight.com.
