Sinfully Sweet in Sin City
Payard's Chocolate Clock
 |
As if casinos, shows, shopping, restaurants, spas and all-night parties weren’t enough, visitors to Sin City now have another way to indulge at Caesars Palace. In addition to luxurious rooms, 129,000 square feet of casino space and a bevy of world-renowned restaurants, the hotel now features Payard Pâtisserie & Bistro’s Payard Chocolate Clock, which was unveiled on April 15, 2008.
Despite the rumor that clocks don’t exist in Las Vegas casinos, this timepiece not only counts down the hours, but rewards steadfast gamblers with free truffles at intervals during operating hours. Designed by Rockwell Group, who also designed the Caesars Palace restaurant and the flagship Payard Pâtisserie & Bistro in New York City, the thirteen-foot-high clock appears to be made completely of the dark, decadent sweet. Windows provide a peek into the mechanical chamber, whose parts mimic the six-step process of making chocolates and truffles. After whetting their palates with the truffles, Las Vegas visitors can explore more of the sweet world at the Payard Pâtisserie & Bistro, where pastries and chocolates are available, as well as savory options like soups and sandwiches.
