The title doesn’t lie. Anyone with
a sweet tooth looking for some new recipes will appreciate
the love that Emily Luchetti has for anything decadent.
A pastry chef and author of Stars Desserts, Luchetti’s
newest cookbook is just as pleasing to the palate as it
is to the eye. This gorgeous book deserves a graphic design
award—the uncluttered pages and simple layout make
cooking an ease. Although we could use more photographs
of the lovely desserts, the instructions are easy to follow,
and each recipe includes a “Planning Ahead”
paragraph for cooks who can’t spend all day in the
kitchen.
And
now on to the desserts. These scrumptious sweets are anything
but ordinary. Bakers used to finding countless cookie and
cake variations will be delighted by entries such as “Apple
Caramel Bread Pudding” and “Cappuccino Custard
with Cinnamon Cream.” We whipped up the “Chocolate
Mocha Truffles”, which tasted incredible and were
a breeze to make. The cookbook is also broken up into season-themed
chapters; while “Summer Desserts” utilizes fresh
items like berries and stone fruits, “Winter Desserts”
is full of warm flavors like chocolate and nut. Luchetti
has created a masterpiece—a cookbook that contains
gourmet recipes that make us feel like pastry chefs as well
as baking techniques and instructions that are realistic
for all home cooks, no matter what level of expertise.
