Making
Great Candy
A Sweet Selection of Fun and Easy Recipes
by
Laura Dover Doran (Lark Books)

If
making homemade Halloween candy really were as easy as picking up prepackaged
goodies in the supermarket, everyone probably would do it. Laura Dover
Doran, however, comes spookily close in her gooey guidebook. The first
good sign is the presence of to-scale, clear photographs of every confection.
Next come clear-cut descriptions of ingredients such as chocolate,
butter, milk products, nuts, liqueurs, sugar and liquid sugars. Easy
street continues with concise and easy-to-follow instructions for each
recipe. What this all really means is that your house may just become
the most popular on Halloween or anytime you decide to serve simple
specialties like orange-butterscotch balls, lemon-pistachio bonbons,
cherry-chocolate truffles and marbled peanut bark. If, for some reason,
everything doesn't go according to Doran's perfect plan, she provides
a brief, handy troubleshooting guide.
