Cracking the Coconut
Classic Thai Home Cooking
by Su-Mei Yu

Su-Mei Yu, who made a name for herself (and many friends) years ago
when she opened the tiny Saffron Chicken carry-out
shop and the newer, more spacious Saffron Noodles & Sate next door in
the India Street "Colony" of San Diego now has joined the ranks
of America's leading cookbook authors. Her new volume gives a beautiful
guided tour of Thai home cooking. We wish there were more photos,
but those included (especially one of the aptly-named "heavenly
shrimp salad") do look good enough to eat. An excellent teaching
book, Cracking the Coconut is sufficiently well-detailed
to be accessible to beginners, yet offers a great deal to sophisticated
cooks as well.
