The
Circadian Prescription
Get in Step With Your Body's Natural Rhythms
to Maximize Energy, Vitality, and Longevity

Most
of us pay less attention to our body's circadian clock than we do to
the alarm clock on our night table or the watch on our wrist, laments
Dr. Sidney MacDonald Baker. In The Circadian Prescription, he
clearly and enthusiastically presents all the scientific literature
to show why he thinks this is a big-time mistake. A body's internal
clock completes its rhythmic cycle about every 24 hours in synchrony
with the earth's rotation. Exposure to sunlight (because of working
inside all day many of us don't get enough), sleep and diet can all
influence the internal clock and create havoc with mood, weight (blood
sugar is a key affected component) and health. Baker's plan, including
his belief that eating protein in the morning and carbohydrates later
in the day is important, features simple steps to improving all these
areas. If you've never heard of the important effect sunlight can have
on weight and sleep patterns, two other fascinating reads are Nobody
Overeats by S.M. Madden, M.D. (Sage Creek Press) and Sunlight by Zane
R. Kime, M.D. (World Health Publications).
