by Mandy Aftel, Daniel Patterson

It
is rare to find two masters who are able to share,
together and individually, their talents in such graceful,
creative and stimulating ways as Mandy Aftel and Daniel
Patterson have done in Aroma:
The Magic of Essential Oils in Foods and Fragrance. The book’s subtitle sums up the appeal of the
journey through this multi-sensory guide.
The
creators of this delicious journey are Patterson,
a chef, who owns and runs the highly-rated Frisson in San Francisco, and Aftel, a renowned perfumer and
authority on natural essences. Together they present
recipes for dishes using essential oils and wonderful
ideas for creating body care products.
We
all have special memories that are evoked by a scent
or taste, and usually, a combination of the two. And,
aromas beautifully enhance our well-being. The fragrance
combinations and directions for making body applications
suggested in this book may seem involved, but look
again! And, as the recipe combinations may seem tedious,
take your time. It seems as though the authors are
asking you to slow down, to ponder the possibilities
that already exist in the world around you, and to
dive deeper into them.
Take a chance, be surprised, delighted, and gain a
new passion for something so simple as sea bass with
rosewater beurre blanc and porcini; or enjoy the vanilla-licorice
scent you love all day on your skin.
